The original title of the film is La pianiste.
I was completely aghast. Very disturbing film. As far as films go this is definitely unforgettable - well made and unforgettable. It carries you down a rabbit hole and leaves you at the bottom. The main character seems to be in crisis and snaps back to reality too late to change her course. I think that at some point she may have been abused. That would explain the mother's overprotective nature even at her age. Maybe her abuser was not justly punished and now she kills anything that might be beautiful just as everything that was unspoiled in her was killed. Now she craves punishment because she thinks it's her fault and someone should make her pay for it. I think a psychologist needs to analyse this one. She may also believe that there would be pleasure for her in a relationship of that nature and always wanted to experience it but she wants it from a person who is not like by nature: sadistic. The emotional space he needs to be in is not the one she needs him to be in to perform the tasks that she requires: love. He needs to be in a place of indifference and partial disgust to do what she asks. Ironically in that moment she wants love and tenderness at least in his eyes but there is none. There are so many unorthodox themes in this film. It is definitely outside the box. This a "be careful what you wish for" film especially if what you wish for is twisted and freaky. Who knows...
A very complex movie with great acting and direction.
