Too long for it's own good. The last 15 minutes are epic and tie together nicely. Overall, a great story (even though it deviated from the book) of hope triumphant.
Although the movie is very long, it kept me interested throughout. This one is much better than Kevin Costner's Waterworld, in my opinion. I have no idea why I didn't find and watch this movie before today. This is definitely a hidden gem. Especially, if you are a fan of Kevin Costner. Also, good lord, Olivia Williams looks so beautiful in this movie.
I do enjoyed this movie I think the story is very interesting and pretty original I love the way they build up this apocalyptic world I also love how they really just don't bother telling you how anything happened it's not really important to the story of the movie how we got to this point
I enjoy the main villain he feels very cartoonish at times but at the same time he's very menacing it's a interesting blend
the movie is way too long though so many things could be cut down that are just not that important to the story I mean it feels like at least 30 40 minutes into the movie before the main character even gets the idea to become the post man which is kind of ridiculous if you think about it
there's also a lot of really overly dramatic action sequences where they slow it down with intense music to try to get some kind of emotional reaction a lot of times it just felt like too much and became comical to me
and a lot of times the action is filmed weird they cut away at certain moments that make certain deaths feel less important or brutal when they should feel that way
overall I do like the world building I do like how we get a lot of different characters and only get to see them over the course of time to see them build relationships with each other
the grand feel of the movie
but the tone gets lost several times throughout the movie
So. Here we are. The third movie directed by Kevin Costner - after Dances with the wolves (good classic movie) and Open Range.
The last one, Postman however is very medicore. It's not bad, but is it good ?
Well, it sounds simple, but it's way more complicated.
Actually there are two major problems with this movie:
It's way too long.
And i don't mean 20 minutes or so. I mean like and hour or more. There are storylines that should help to evolve the characters beside Kevin. But Kevin Costner as a director takes waaaay to much screentime for that.
200% heroic
I like this kind of movies. If a little Flower of Hope is spreading and you can watch like it grows. But the movie does it so obivous and clumsy that it ruins it. Like "You don't do it for you. You do it for the greater good". Yeah, i know what the movie want to say. But, comeon, seriously? Such a flar message? Btw. this is no actual line from the movie, but i think you get the idea.
The setting is really interesting though, bus in the end it's a medicore movie. It's not surprised that this movie crashed in boxoffice.
3/10
Entertaining movie, yet could have been a lot better if it had been closer to the book. I understand the removal of some elements from the book... but in the end, the only element they took from it is the fact that the main character steals the uniform from a corpse in a car. Everything else is made up.
Guilty pleasure written all over it. After a fairly promising beginning, the premise becomes completely ridiculous and it is told with such seriousness and sentimentality at times that it borders on laughable, but still it remains a pretty entertaining film, largely down to Costner and Patton, but also Costner's willingness to commit to the unbelievable aspects with such conviction to help sell the story. Whilst he doesn't always succeed, you have to admire the effort.
