i LOVE the first movie and was very disappointed by this one tbh. I didn’t like how Rachael was verbalizing everything she was thinking (thus walking the audience through the movie) and the cinematography was underdeveloped. Sad to make this review :’(

I just watched this immediately on the heels of the first Ring movie and I felt like it was actually a decent sequel. It's not as "creepy" as the first one - not by a long shot - but it has its moments. I watched the "Unrated" version but have no idea what could have been any different; the movie was relatively tame throughout and I didn't see anything that would have really made that huge a difference. I know I'm in the minority here for enjoying this one but yeah, I thought it was a decent follow-up.

Dissapointing sequel where the green color grading from the first film has been replaced with gray. Boring and not scary, better rewind the first film!

Not nearly as good as the first "Ring" flick.

By now, I believe that the quality of the Japanese film "Ringu" was due to the source material and not to director Hideo Nakata. Neither with "Ring 2" (1999) nor with the US sequel "The Ring Two" did he manage to put together a remotely passable film. In this 2005 flick, almost nothing works. The film looks worse than its direct predecessor, the story makes less sense and is boring, there isn't a single convincing horror moment, and even the actors are far from their best. The latter also applies to Naomi Watts, who was brilliant in the last film. Another thing that is really annoying is the CGI, which deprives even a character like Samara, who was creepy as hell before, of any shock value. Moreover, when Samara can pop up anywhere and anytime, it doesn't necessarily make it any scarier. The silly and extremely uncreative finale then did the rest for me. I mean, seriously: "I'm not your fucking mommy!"? Really, after this film at the latest, it would have been time to finally abandon the series.

Incoherent slop that seems to have completely ignored what made the first U.S. version so great and ends up shallow and fake. Considering the talent involved, there's really no excuse for the movie to be this bad.

In a way it's reasonably scary

Taking the conventional route of a horror sequel, The Ring Two is predictable and formulaic. Samara is back, but this time she’s looking to possess Rachel’s son; meanwhile Rachel investigates Samara’s origins, trying to discover a way to stop her. Naomi Watts returns and is joined by Simon Baker, Sissy Spacek, and Emily VanCamp. But once again the weak link is the child actor playing Watt’s son, only the problem is worsened by the increased focus on his character. And the writing is especially poor, playing on a lot of stereotypes and clichés, and not really explaining why things happen. However, the director does a good job at creating haunting imagery and at drawing out suspense. Unfortunately, The Ring Two is a rote and uninspired film that fails to recapture the terror of the original.

This movie really tries to scary you, but comes off funny than scary.

Compared to the first film, this one is absolute garbage. I've heard the last one 'Rings' is even worse so I'll definitely be skipping that one. ((I gave this one a five due to a few scenes/moments that I liked))

The Ring with similarities to Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Where the son is possessed by the lead villain. The movie is silly but has it's creepy moments. Especially the well scene in the end.
