The Shadow Riders 1982

Decent made-for-TV movie. As big a fan of Louis L'Amour westerns as I've been for years, none of his novels have transitioned well (IMO) from the page to the big screen, but they still make for decent watching. Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott…well, you can't really go wrong with those two and this one is no different. I admit, there are plenty of spots in the film where this really comes across as cheesy, but again, the transition from the printed page to the screen just lacks something. Although I've read the book, I didn't remember much about it and watching this makes me want to go read the novel again. I have little doubt that the book itself won't come across as being this light-hearted and "fun", but I'm sure it will make for a great read again. If you like westerns and you can tolerate the silly feel of an outdated made-for-TV movie, you might enjoy this one. It's not for everyone, but for those who enjoy a good old-fashioned heartwarming "old West" story, this makes for a decent evening.
