This is one incredibly fun guilty pleasure.
Watched it for the first time in ten years. But I enjoyed the whole movie with a grin on my face.
It is not the best Stallone movie you will see nor the best masterpiece ever filmed. But you should not go in with that in mind.
Just make sure your brain is turned to half power and ready to be entertained in a fun way.

I had no idea that I owned the Specialist on Blu-ray. While I was looking for Judge Dredd yesterday, I found a whole box set of Stallone movies, and since I haven't seen this one since I had it on VHS back in the mid 90s, I chose this for today. Not the best choice I could have made...
The Specialist is boring...plain and simple. Sure, there are a few nice explosions, and Sharon Stone is so sexy, both with or without clothes, that it can actually be a bit distracting. For those of us so inclined, of course. There's also some tension, but the movie follows a very predictable path, so it usually fizzles out to nothing.
No matter what you are looking for in The Specialist, it is done better in other movies. Here you'll only find overacting and a very predictable and boring story.
