The Third Man 1949

It's hyped as one of the classic movies this one, and while there were some fantastic elements of noir and murder mystery, I think I have seen better. It looks lovely (I don't think I've ever seen so many Dutch angles in one film), and the performances are solid, but the middle segment of the movie slightly lost my interest a little. I can imagine it was a real eye opener back in the day though

I really loved the lighting and shadows. The movie looks great overall but those stood out. The score was great and Orson Welles steal the show when he finally arrives.

Very interesting film, not too clear at a first watching, but with a superb representation of Vienna, as well as the acting and the cinematography.

High expectations gave way to the surprisingly ordinary story. I appreciate the visual details interesting direction and performance of Orson Welles which is brief but amazing.

Such a great film. The chasing scene in the sewer is iconic

Based solely on this film and Citizen Kane i'm gonna come out and say that Cotten and Welles were almost definitely f#cking in real life.

P.S.: Vienna as the background setting was lovely!

Fun crime movie with post war Vienna as an interesting setting. Some of the choices made are a bit weird, though. For example, take it easy with the angled shots… My god. Also don’t understand why people seem to like the music. It gets a bit annoying if you ask me.

Finishing out 1949 strong--to me, this is a perfect movie. The lighting, the score, the camera work--all superb. I love how evocative the film is of a time and a place--the post-war ruins along with the classic Vienna architecture combine to reinforce the exploration of moral ambiguity. It's shocking filmmaking, in the best way possible.
