Who would have thought a retro super-gory fun-fest would be so sweet!
I was Impressed, I love the 80s style theme, the effects were great, and the sense of humour of the script was on my level. Spot on sound tracks. WTF gore. It's got it all, full on action XD Bring on number 2 :P
Absolutely loved the retro feel and gore. Good soundtrack and a fun watch. Great B movie.
This movie has everything that I like, Gore, stupid jokes, retro post apocalyptic setting, etc. But it was absolutely dreadful, the characters are as bland as it can be, and the plot isn't interesting at all. Only the soundtrack is nice.
Reminded me of the goof times! And the music was just awesome! Listening to it right now. Movie not for all, but definitely will be enjoyed in right hands)
Turbo Kid is a feature-length adaptation of a short submitted for the ABCs of Death series. Sporting not one but three directors it's a very competent debut. I only saw one of their shorts a long time ago which was Bagman but that already set my expectations high for midnight fun! The cast is strong and the story inventive & fun. They also took the time to actually build the future this movie takes place in.
It's a mix of retro homage and glorious gore but I sometimes felt these two don't necessarily go together that well. Still a lot of fun!
This throwback to the post apocalyptic cinema of the 1980's is infused with a fitting synth soundtrack. A cross between BMX Bandits, Mad Max, and Solarbabies, this is a treat for fans of the genre.
i was defnitelly not expecting for a 90's nostalgic trash/gore movie.
A true love letter to the ABS-molded glory of a generation's youth. The characters aren't the deepest, and the story is fairly simplistic, but it looks and feels like the daydream fantasies of childhood, and I imagine that was the point. Currently waiting for the fan theories that state that the entire movie was all in The Kid's head as a justification for some manner of childhood trauma.
A fun over the top movie.
:heart:x2
This is a pretty bad movie, although it does have it's moments of chuckle-quality laughs. I think the saddest part of the movie was to see Michael Ironside in it.
Bottom-line, I'd say don't bother with this one, although I know some folks will like it.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
A wildly entertaining, genuinely hilarious and wonderfully gory dystopian splatter/adventure that's so over the top in all the right ways. Watching this gave me so much joy. This thing has ridiculous amounts of blood, and on top of that, it also has a lot of heart and personality. You can easily tell this was made with such clear love and care. The cheapness and naiveness of it that make this little film super charming I can't help but fall in love with it. The synth score just sucks you in with a nostalgic feel and really adds to the charm. If you're into a sweet film with crazy amounts of blood and decapitation, look no further.
Easily my favorite movie, It's a simple but effective story that we've all seen 100's of times, but it's drenched in so much of that retrowave style and personality of its own.
It is to the makers of Turbo Kid’s credit that within ten minutes of the start of the film I was checking the sleeve for the year the film was made. It was 2015 not 1985. This truly was a well-crafted knowing love letter.
Right down to the cheesy synth pop movie to the style of shots, even the acting, Turbo Kid just shouted 1980s from the get-go. Often with this type of pastiche the story does not hold up, the acting can be creaky, yet with Turbo Kid, the joke never wore thin.
The hilarious and so spot-on grand guignol of spurting blood, flying heads and suspiciously rubbery looking intestines were enough to shock when they suddenly popped up or even gushed out. Yet they still make you laugh with their gloriously over-the-top and senseless ultraviolence. The action was the sort of thing that would have made the 80s school kid you were squeal with pleasure and then tell all in the playground the next day.
At 91 minutes running time Turbo kid didn’t outstay it’s welcome either. although I have to say my attention was just starting to fray near the end even though the goodies, baddies and in-betweens were lining up to meet their ends, escape or be the hero.
As far as the story goes it is nonsense, just as it should be but one point I particularly loved was in this dystopian future everyone rides push -bikes, which makes sense to me, do you know how to refine petrol? Everything else is in there, revenge for the murder of a mother, an unexpected reveal for a character, the cool mysterious stranger and the evilest of evils the one and only greatest. Michael Ironside. The tropes of being a hero to yourself loving a friend who initially you mistrusted and winning the day with a sacrifice are ticked off in a competent and fun way. If you loved this type of film as a youngster, you’ll love Turbo kid.
The acting a from mainly unknown cast, to me at least, (I apologise to any Kiwis and Canucks who know them well), play their roles to perfection, the two younger protagonists Munro Chambers and Laurence Leboeuf playing Turbo Kid and Apple respectively do very well in particularly tricky roles. They have to play their pivotal characters completely straight and yet somehow give a knowing wink to is the audience, for me, this audience, it worked. Leboeuf in what could be an irritating presence had enough skill to make Apple daft, annoying, endearing, fun and ultimately tragic.
Some work there just in that one role.
Munro is Turbo Kid and his charisma carries past any flaws on the story or script. Michael Ironside and Aaron Jeffery are both experienced enough to carry their less nuanced characters with some ease and to wring out as much fun as their respective roles and presence in the film allowed.
If you into nostalgia from you misspent youth (1980s) Mad Max style apocalypses mixed in with BMX bandits channelling kung-fu kids with futuristic superheroes – this is the movie for you. The thing is it sounds awful but if you watched this films in your early teens you will get a kick from surprisingly well made and well-acted tribute.
Turbo Kid is fun and daft, like the original films, in fact scrub that, some of them were not this much fun.
"It's like a museum of coolness in here!" Loved the retro vibes! The costumes and the music!
Apple makes an adorable version of Harley Quinn! Same eccentric vibe but not as crazy and twice as adorable!
watched this movie its all good all kinds of out the gate 8/10 for bplus grade movie.... you will enjoy thou ...
An Apple a day keeps the doctor away~
(Man, Laurence Leboeuf is gorgeous - nuff said.)
this was enjoyable, I enjoyed the over the topness and exaggerated cinematography. the setting and story was well done.

The sound track is great and whoever did costume design for this must have been having the time of their life. It's gory as hell, cheesy at times and really sweet at others and a ton of fun overall. I really had fun with this film and i recommend it to anyone who even vaguely enjoys this kind of flick.
