U.S. Marshals 1998

Needless to say, "U.S. Marshals" is nowhere near as good as "The Fugitive." But the movie is still a lot of fun, especially in the first half, where there are some spectacular action sequences. Furthermore, the dynamics surrounding the marshal team led by Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) work really well, as they did in the previous movie. The plot, on the other hand, is less successful. It is both predictable and confusing, which is not exactly a great combo. Nevertheless, the movie is still entertaining; I certainly would have been interested in more movies about Gerard's team.

"The Great Sam Gerard."

Damn it has been awhile since I've watched a movie but I made a fine choice today. Had this one on my watch-list for quite awhile and I was happy Letterboxd notified me it was available on HBO Max now. So I owned it to myself to finally watch this.

Anyway the "plot twist" is damn too obvious but hey, who cares if you have Tommy Lee Jones chasing Wesley Snipes. A great scene about a plane crash, swinging towards a moving train, a cemetery shootout, a great cast and a happy ending.

U.S. Marshals feels like a late 90's thriller and that is always a plus. I like those movies from that period. I didn't even know though that this was a follow up to the Fugitive which I shamefully have never seen before which I should be watching next! I don't know if that would've helped the experience or weaken it because I might have had higher expectations from U.S. Marshals, but for me it felt like a stand alone movie and a solid one!

A Fugitive spin-off we didn’t need. It was nice to have Tommy Lee Jones back nevertheless. Even if it recycles a lot of the Fugitive.
You also have Tommy Lee Jones chasing Snipes through-out. Despite a lot of evidence pointing to a frame job.

A little too similar to the first one. Missing Harrison Ford is a huge loss for this movie. Tommy Lee Jones doesn't have the great moments like he did in The Fugitive.

It's pretty much just a retread of the original, and as such is a lesser sequel. But there are some great action sequences and Tommy Lee Jones is just as great. It's worth a watch if you liked Fugitive. I have weakness for Wesley Snipes though, so I may be biased.
