Understanding Art: Hidden Lives of Works of Art 2012

At the initiative of the Louvre Museum, the world's greatest specialists in Rembrandt, Leonard de Vinci, Watteau, Raphaël and Poussin came together to rediscover and study the works of these masters, taken from the walls and framed. The masterpieces of the Louvre are survivors! For many centuries, they managed to escape looting, fires, woodworms, degradation of pigments, changes in taste, repainting, brutal restorations, saw mutilations, attacks, aging, to oblivion ... Some have lived in hiding, under false identities, others, who were believed to be lost, suddenly reappear, centuries later. An exceptional situation, even for these experts. A collective investigation where everyone will try to elucidate the enigma of the work. A unique encounter between men and works.
