Tipical Chinese action movie with Jackie Chan but OMG those accents when they speak in English haha
The whole time I had a feeling that I am watching a new Fast and Furious movie, just with Chinese actors. And that's mostly what it is, a lot of cars, action and bad acting. But they have Jacking Chan, and that's always a plus. Mostly, fun and entertaining action movie. Not the best, not the worst.
I expected the worst. But was genuinely surprised by this movie. Very recommended for those who love Jacky but understand he is not a young man anymore.
可看可不看的电影, watched at 2020-09-28, imported from douban
Not sure I like secret Chinese police setup in London as plot device, considering China have been accused of doing just that in real life. Bit tone deaf start for what tries to be a lighthearted family actioner. "Know our tongue but not our ethics" is an actual quote later on.. Again Google "ethics in China" will bring up quite an amount of depressing bed time reading. It all ends up feeling like a Chinese propaganda film. I'd have to research the many production companies than are listed in the credits to see how many are state linked but I'm guessing this got big thumbs up from Chinese government censors (notice in the scene were one male character gives another male character mouth to mouth you never actually see it - it's obviously masked each time so as not to trigger the homophobic state).
We really need Matt and Trey to do a Team China World Police soundtrack for this one... China! F*CK YEAH! "
I do like it how they spent money and time modelling CGi hyenas for Tong's (also CGI heavy) "Kung Fu Yoga" three years earlier so Tong found a way to reuse the once again. CGI lions and cars are more funny than Chan's gags in this one.
Overall a below average time waster; classic Chan this is not, but it appears he got paid handsomely for this flick so don't blame him cashing in and taking it easy in his twilight years. He's earned it.
It’s not a great movie but it does have its moments, with guys on hoverboards and the occasional funny asides. Chan mostly takes a backseat in the action stakes though so don’t expect the stunt work from his younger years.
It's enjoyable. The story isn't great. It's essentially a series of chases.
On a technical level, it's a beautiful film. I love the bright, saturated colors. The sound design and music are also high points. There is some distracting CGI, particularly with animals.
I've been doing a watch-through of all the Jackie Chan films that I haven't seen. I started with the 1970s and worked my way to the most recent. Many of the recent films have been not so great. I was glad to end with a fun, high-energy film like this one.
I don't mind Jackie Chan's films changing as he gets older, but I will say that this film made a good choice to not center only on him. I really enjoyed Miya Muqi and her action sequences. The BTS footage during the credits was fun as well.
It says it's in Chinese, but about half of it is English. Just FYI.
Super good action movie It is worth more than the rating on the site
