The first half got me wet, but the second half left me soggy. This Singaporean movie about a Chinese language teacher's relationship with one of her students starts off incredibly well-structured with motivation springing from her bad marriage but also a plethora of figurative reasons conveyed through a deep dive into the daily details of the grotesque (a scene where she wipes diarrhea from her father in law's naked ass, for example).
That this powerful imagery could disintegrate into a poorly shot soap opera makes the film a tragic waste, and 45 minutes too long.
