I scour the internet looking for quality indie dramas. One movie review site offered up this film as a comparable to a movie that i adore - The Skeleton Twins. That's all I needed to give it a go.
Things started off ok - it was interesting to see a young Mark Ruffalo and Laura Linney. Seeing Rory Culkin in the movie took a little bit to get used to as he looks and sounds so much like his brother in Home Alone. The background music was a little off-putting - it reminded me of the cheesy music that filled the background in The Rainmaker.
Then something subtle and wonderful happened: the story really took off. When I say subtle, I mean subtle. What felt like a cookie-cutter plot was anything but. Towards the end something occurred to me: this movie is sneaky-good.
