It's okay but it would have been better with a funnier and sharper script. Sorry if that hurts anybody's feelings!
This was fine to burn 90 minutes, but the humour in it totally missed the mark for me. Found myself staring blankly rather than laughing.
these type of movies aren’t really my style so I did find myself kinda bored at times BUT overall it’s still a really endearing and lighthearted comedy with some genuinely hilarious moments and the whole cast is obviously excellent, one moment toward the end really didn’t work for me but beyond that I still found myself just pleasantly vibing along
A movie with sit-com sensibilities, as it isn't too concerned about having a propulsive central thread and focuses instead on humorous interactions involving funny people. And who could be funnier than one of sit-com's GOATs, Julia Louis-Drefus. From Seinfeld to Veep, she has mastered comedic timing and just nails every delivery. And opposite good old Elaine Benes, we have Tobias Menzies, who holds his own. He had a dryly comedic bit part in Catastrophe (2015), which is one of my favorite comedies of the last decade, so it was nice to see him in a similar role here. In fact, I enjoyed pretty much the entire ensemble. The only exception might be the son, who I felt didn't get much to work with in terms of material and ultimately served more as a plot device to draw a parallel that was a bit on the nose for my taste. This ties into a broader criticism that the final act fell a bit flat, as the titular theme never really landed as much more than a vehicle for humor. Luckily, the humor was enough, delivered in a tight 90 minute package with interesting characters, solid bits throughout, and just enough of a through line to tie it all together. As an aside, one bit that really got me was the very underplayed moment when the two sisters get ice cream and we cut to them exiting the store. Just clever/subtle writing. On the other hand, you've got the blatant Seinfeld Easter egg about the diner that I can appreciate for the exact opposite reason.
This is very much a movie that will appeal to a specific type of demographic. It is a lighthearted dramedy that is not overly funny, now does it have mass appeal in its subject matter, but it is very good for what it is! I am not sure I am going to revisit anytime soon, but I really enjoyed watching this story!

This my kind of a movie. RELATABLE! Is it a MUST WATCH. It is not for everyone.
A fairly inoffensive comedy that will leave your brain as soon as you finish watching it. It’s all a bit toothless and disposable, don’t go into this expecting a sharp satire about (over)sensitivity, it’s more of a cozy mom movie that’s focussed on melodramatic relationship drama. You don’t want to be too harsh on that, but simultaneously I can’t deny that there’s not that much that impressed me either. Most of the dialogue is mediocre, the filmmaking feels by the numbers and uninspired (we still haven’t moved past shooting comedies entirely with close-ups and flat lighting? We’re still using those same stock piano chords?), the characters are nothing special, etc.. The acting’s pretty good though, Julia Louis-Dreyfus continues to prove why she’s such a beloved actress and Tobias Menzies is almost equally as likeable. Again, I could see this really working for the people it’s aimed at, but besides a few occasions chuckles this isn’t what I look for in a comedy. Kinda weird to see A24 attach their brand to something like this.

New Yorker neuroticism is not really my comedic thing, but gotta love Julia. Watching it in the background after about 20 minutes.
While I don't think that this movie was meant for me, I thought it was ok. No, it isn't a commentary on being over-sensitive. The bigger question is, do we want to both speak and receive the truth? Or do we prefer to feel good about ourselves? It is a decent watch but I forgot about it 30 seconds after it ended. I had hoped that there would be a little more meat on the bone.

I wish we could write one word reviews, because the only thing I can think of to describe this movie is SOULLESS. Not even my love for Julia could save me from the tedious, chore-like experience of trying to finish it. Also, Tobias was an absolute miscast.
