Despite a flawed script and hit and miss acting, this eight-episode Brazilian series was well executed despite it's tiny budget, the world it created remained convincing throughout. I found myself invested in the characters and their growth. I'm eager to see what happens on Offshore, and how the Cause proceeds from here. The story is what carries this show above its flaws. Season 2 is due next year, and it's my hope a little more budget will inspire the writers to move beyond some of their more obvious tropes.
This is a Netflix series that drew my curiousity for it's interesting premise. It was filmed in Portuguese and I'm assuming those viewers who gave it rave reviews saw it in Portuguese, And those who felt the acting and dialogue were horrible saw it on Netflix, dubbed into English, which is how I first encountered it. And a horrible job of dubbing it was, causing many to abandon the series disappointed. However, I discovered you have the option, in Netflix settings, to choose Portuguese with English subtitles, and, voila, the acting and dialogue issues disappear (except for a few places when Brazilian passion for political speeches overtakes the moment). The pilot is available on YouTube, in Portuguese (no subtitles), so I couldn't start at the beginning of this tale (my Portuguese is non-existent). Netflix doesn't carry the pilot, only seasons 1-3. With the setting corrected, I found the series to be very enjoyable. I give this a 7.5 (really good) out of 10. I have always believed that the weakness of this show was its tendency to melodrama. The last three episodes of this 3rd season fell victim to this, which is why I rated them so low. But it seems it is all set up for a 4th season, so I'm settling into a wait and see position, but I've reduced my rating to a 7 (potential) out of 10. [Dystopian Drama]
It's decent but I often have a slightly hard time getting invested. Like other commentors, it feels like it has its moments of brilliance, and a lot of major misses. That said I do plan to continue watching, since it has just enough hits to keep me going. Often important emotional beats are a miss to me though, and it kind of feels like major characters pass without much impact, partially because of the speed things are moving. Lines are okay and acting is better, and each individual episode feels directed well.
I only watched the first season because it didn’t really leave me wanting more. I do think the first season was really good! I love the concept and its so fun to watch all the tasks that they have to complete. I was entertained, but I had enough of it after one season.
First season is the best. Kind of lost its brilliance in the second season. In my opinion, too much was happening during so few episodes.I don't think I'll watch the third one which will air in few days.
Watched it, loved it. Everything about this will make you want to turn it off, but then you watch it anyway because the story is the best part.
For a Brazilian series, and how I know most of them are terrible, this one surprised me. Besides the acting, it was pretty good for me, the plot is interesting and got my attention. I hope they have more budget for next season, so they have a motivation to get out of the box.
I actually liked this quite lot, and I loved how cruel the world is in this series. I did my best to not to binge watch this.
The acting is probably the worst part, but it doesn't ruin the show at all.
I watched the whole season in one day! I just couldn't stop.
I'm surprised how much I want to watch this.
After watching the pilot episode on YouTube I can't help but have great expectations.
It seems to be great. I hope I am not wrong.
Possibly good, as I binged Season 1. FUP?
Not a bad show. Interesting plot and characters, especially if you’re looking for a more realistic dystopian theme. It’s good that they ended this show when they have to and not like other dystopian shows which carry on for like 7 or so seasons. At some point it gets exhausting. The show flows nicely as they managed to explore the effects of capitalism and individualism, survival, etc. It’s a bit slow during some parts of the whole series; the build-up doesn’t justify the climax type of thing. While that may leave you a bit high and dry, honestly there are some good parts and still worth watching.
After watching the whole show: Writing, acting and/or directing can be really hit or miss here. The show has some great ideas about seperation, entitlement and perceived worth but doesn't really develop them enough. In the end it can still be an entertaining show to watch, besides being unexpectedly shallow.
Let us all be united and speak at the same table as equals... But first, let's destroy some more.. yea! Eye for an eye until everyone is blind! Hell yeah! Let's destroy everything in a world where there is so little. Always people and "cause" centered. F#@k the rest, what others struggled to create, and especially f#@k the PLANET! I guess they learned a lot from the previous apocalyptic event that led them in that situation. More nukes!!!
I really enjoyed this show!
This show has a pretty interesting premise, so I started it. It's a good show to watch when you're bored.
The acting was not very good, though, I kept watching because of the plot. Some actions were to foresee, but the finale didn't disappoint me at all. Also, the characters were worked out perfectly as everybody had his/her own background and loyalty. I recommend it
Two episodes in: The acting (and some of the dialogue) so far is definitely the weakest part. But the plot altough mostly typical YA dystopian stuff is engaging enough to warrent watching the next episode. Production value is decent altough some shots do look cheap.

Season 2 did not disappoint, excellent show throughout for me, not sure why everybody keeps commenting on the (bad) acting. I watched it in Portuguese with English subtitles and had never thought about acting until I read the comments here, so not an issue for me. I do know that the English dubbing is awful, so maybe that's ruining it for you. Just give it a try in its original language.
Season 2 opened up the plot so cleverly and beautifully, I can't wait for season 3 (will there be one? IDK). Just awesome show, one of only 2 shows rated at 10 for me. Go watch it! :)
