A Teacher 2020

This show was honestly just great potential (potential that really stood out in that final scene in the 10th episode), very poorly executed.
+ See the review by @cutecruel on the final episode which pretty much says everything else I'd want to say.

The biggest thing I struggle with for this show is its intention. That is, what am I as a viewer supposed to be getting from this? Am I supposed to be rooting for the teacher, like a twisted Netflix's You type of deal? Am I supposed to understand that there are two sides to every story? It's just...weird man. They present both sides fairly equally, weighing more heavily on the teacher's perspective in the first half, and it's just painfully uncomfortable. She's so unapologetically intentional in her attraction to her student, and it's horrifying. I haven't seen the movie, but this show is just wack. The fact that they try and show the teacher as a vulnerable character to sympathize with and then have the audacity to put a "If you are in need of help, visit blah blah" at the intro/outro of each episode is just so blindly ignorant...

Overall I liked the show but wished the episodes were longer to go more in-depth in each episode. It would have been great if they showed more of the husband and her co-worker's reactions to what she did. We also would have more time to show Eric's trauma to the experience. They only show maybe 5 seconds of it in episode 9 and that was it. There isn't enough time to get an emotional connection with him and his experience. Not even a therapy session or anything. What a waste of 10 episodes.

The show starts off well, the first few episodes flow smoothly and quickly that it made me wish they were longer. However, halfway through, they start to drag. This should have been a 3-4 episodes mini-series, it would have been much more interesting to follow. The message it delivers is very important but you have to endure before reaching that “satisfying” ending.

"He pursued me" says the grown-ass woman who had a sex dream about HER 17-YEAR-OLD STUDENT after the FIRST TIME they met. Disgusting.

I agree with a commenter who said their biggest problem with this show was intention. This woman absolutely abused her position and pursued an underage boy because she was bored and unfulfilled with her life. But the show still wants you to feel bad about her. It's all about her, not the victim.

I mean... The fact that they didn't show much of his mental struggle of unraveling that it wasn't "his idea", it wasn't "consensual" or "love", and he wasn't the one at fault, but they did show her experience and even gave her a happy fucking ending??? Like, what is this? I don't believe for a second she was sorry about anything, she was just sorry that she ruined her own life. Again, the focus wasn't on her victim.

There was an opportunity here to explore the underrepresented experience of men being taken advantage of by women. More specifically, young men falling victim to predatory older women and the trauma that brings. And they decided to do this instead??? I just don't get it.

The series is an adaptation of a movie with the same title.

"they try and show the teacher as a vulnerable character to sympathize with and then have the audacity to put a "If you are in need of help, visit blah blah" at the intro/outro of each episode is just so blindly ignorant...: @mj, in the other comments, put this together well.

it just feels like a modern day ezra x aria pretty little liars situation, where they portray the teacher in a sympathetic light and show the student heavily pressuring the teacher to have it.. at the end, the student tells the teacher they were destroyed but for at least 8 eps they was this weird romanticization of whats going on. not to mention how hypersexual it all was portrayed. i feel very confused on how the creators of this show wanted the viewer to feel.. that both sides were right?

How did the affair with the hot female teacher damage the horny young man? This 10-episode series did not satisfactorily answer this important question although it tried to do so in the last thirty seconds of the last episode.

I think this dialogue needs to be had with older man/teenage girls. Its still so very normalized in all media... seriously. But it does nod to that, and maybe showcasing this dynamic helps shed light on that since it IS so normalized. That being said, this is important too and I like the actor Nick, he did a good job. I'm so happy how it ended, from a fantasy to showcasing the actual weight on both sides. and that last episode at the dinner table, go off kinggg

excellent ending, 10/10. overall good, honest portrayal of the fallout of something like this.

most priceless quote: "and now as a mother, i can't even understand why i did that." it's literally the remix of woke dads on the internet going "now that i'm a father i understand what rape culture does i could Never Imagine that happening to my daughter" like you need offspring to understand the devastation of sexual assault on a human being? bitch please.

A n Y w A y i think this would have worked better as a mini series of 5 50 minute long episodes. there were some scenes that didn't need to happen and others that deserved much more gravity and time. i like how the issue of sexual abuse was handled in the show and the last episode was such a long time coming for having only sat through 9 half hour episodes that it really felt satisfying to end on that note. both leads are incredible actors and did the story justice. it wasn't a happy watch but it was a worthwhile one.

It seems like the writers copy and past posts from infidelity subreddits. there is no depth, mediocre conversations, and bad acting. So what we get? The answer is an awful movie and a bad mini-series.

I could have used a teacher like her to make school a place I didn't fear and dredd everyday.

The ending felt so rushed. also who exactly was the victim here? The entire show felt pointless

2 unlikeable characters and a meaningless love with no depth or built up. Not my kind.

Started all average but I didn't expected to end that great!! I recommend this show %100. Great execution and the end is satisfying if you ask me. Because this series is not like all fun haply ever after one. Raw realities. Really underrated, deserves at least 8/10.

Good show overall. I was expecting a teenage show with a romanticize "relationship", but it is not, thankfully. I just wish the episodes were longer. Like, maybe 60 minutes, because it clearly could have been 5 or 6 episodes.

This is why so many American women cheat. American men are soft, they act like a KITTEN :)
