This makes me cry every single time. It's so heartbreaking, emotional, and beautiful.... Many consider Adventure Time to be a silly kids show, but this episode just expands its universe to so much more.

This episode still really makes me cry even after 7 or 8 years.

there's no way to describe the beauty at the end of this episode

Holds up all these years later as an all timer. That mystery throughout of what these two major characters who’ve never interacted before could possibly be connected by, and the gradual reveal of it being more and more emotional and intimate. Ice King’s mental illness never being so pitiable and real, and how he retreats and shuts down over pushing Marceline in a way he rarely ever does. Some part of him registers her as important, but not the way that she’s important, and Marceline has to navigate her father figure talking about her ex as a romantic object, about his deep and lost loneliness, and have him try to kiss her. And that song, so discordant and yet forming something beautiful and heartwrenching and Marceline just losing herself to it, throwing herself into the jam session. Because for all she knows at this point at the story, this is all she’ll get of Simon. The closest she’ll ever get again to the father she knew. So she latches onto it tight. Still Sugar’s opus, in my eyes.

Probably the first episode of Adventure Time that made me cry, and the beginning of an untangling of the narrative in a way that is both surprising and incredibly gratifying.
