Sprig: [Grabs book, staring.] "Of course not, Polly." [Polly stacks cards, staring back. Sprig stands in doorway, still staring.] "Of course not." [Walks away.]Polly: "You stole the corn, didn't you?"
Sprig: "Oh, absolutely."
Sprig: "Oh, that's right, Polly. I'm going to steal more corn right under their noses! They'll have to do this again tomorrrow, and the next night, and the next night, until they're the bestest friends who were ever friends, and then the family will be saved!" [Sinister laughing.]
Polly: "You're mad!"Polly: [Tackling Sprig.] "Stop this madness! You've lost your mind!"
Sprig: "A small price for saving this family!"
Hop Pop: "Teakettle beam, fire!" [Shooting blue laser.]
Anne: [Grunts.] "Rainbow magic!" [Shooting two pink lasers.][Anne and Hop Pop in trance.]
Polly: "Welp, they're broken."

[6.8/10] Not one of my favorite episodes so far. The conflict between Hop Pop and Anne over “back in my day” vs. “back in my home” is fine, but fairly stock, and there’s not much to it. There’s a kernel of truth to Sprig worrying about a home where everyone’s fighting all the time, but it’s pretty thin in the episode itself. And him stealing corn to force Anne and Hop Pop to spend concentrated time together is a little too sitcom-y for my tastes.
The fact that they drink trippy beverages and start hallucinating is the kind of bit I tend to love. But Hop Pop turning into a tea kettle and Anne having glowing hair is pretty tame by “drug trip episode” standards. There’s some nice design work and animation with Sprig as the corn monster, and it’s amusing when the whole thing turns into a power rangers-style battle, but otherwise this one is fine enough but not as engaging as other episodes of the show.
The one exception is that I loved Polly in this one, her dry reactions to Sprig’s plans, and her general attitude about the whole thing got the most laughs out of me.
Overall, a bit of a lesser light, but totally watchable.
