I came into this series not having read the book/s so it was all so very new and refreshing to me. And I liked that. I fell totally in love with Anne and Green Gables. I wallowed in every rise and fall (and rise again) of emotions I experienced while watching this series.
Sometimes, we need a little touch of inspiration in the midst of a television era steeped in violence and hopeless situations. ♥
OH, but THAT ending, though~! I am going to cry if this series does not come back for a second season to resolve THAT!
Definitely one of the bests shows I've watched in my entire life. All the characters are so specials and the emotions, oh... I lost count of how many times I cried, smiled, loved. I'm really loving this show and hoping to see a season 2.
it's a crime that this show was cancelled... this is the best Green Gables adaptation
We need season 4!! Cmon Netflix :pray:
I watch an episode of this show and suddenly I don't want to die anymore :)
I loved every single episode! May it run for as many seasons as possible!
I really did not expect this series to become one of my favourites. I have learned and seen many things and grew up with the characters. Totally recommend it.
My wife started watching this while I was doing my own thing and I was like why am I feeling so irritable...cause them A-holes were bein mean to Anne dammit and this gem had me sucked in without even realizing it lol
A period drama that explores everyday situations in the life of a 13-year-old Anne of Green Gables. An okay cast, but some really strange deliveries at times. The plot isn't the most engaging, though its a stripped back story that is unlike many on modern television. I personally didn't find it too interesting, but it seems like a solid program so I can't bash it "too" much.
(+) Good costume, set design
(+) Solid performances from younger cast
(=) Not too much of a plot from episode to episode
(-) Slow pacing, sometimes dragging to a stop
(-) Characters are a bit one-note at times, many making illogical decisions
Final Verdict: 4/10 (Below Average)
Don't get me wrong this show isn't bad, but I don't understand how it is quite so highly rated as it is either.
It's a bit silly at times. These girls are supposed to be teenagers, but they act like they're 8. It happens quite often that they just randomly start giggling or dancing in place of any actual resolution.
It's a lot like your typical old timey comedy. It repeats all the cliché scenarios. Side characters will burst in with a problem for an episode, and then it's basically is never mentioned again. The characters are more like caricatures, and the whole thing can get a bit repetitive and boring.
dead deceased no longer alive
This show is so beautiful and especially so pure. I wish I could speak in English so poetic as Anne because those words would exactly describe how amazing is this show. Maybe Anne as a character is not for everyone but give it a try and don't give up on her because this show also has really important theme. I'm not into feminist movies at all but what was happening in those times... Well give it a try I love this show...
:flag_ca:(Upon the premiere of season 3) A little disappointing. The first season was wonderful. It captured all the whimsy that I remember from the books. Amy Beth McNulty was a breath of fresh air. Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson were the iconic Marilla and Matthew. PEI (Prince Edward Island) never shone so bright. The second season seemed to stall. The story arch was foreign to the Green Gables canon and the desire to modernize the ethics of the times felt alien to its charm but I clung to the hope of the first season and was glad to see Netflix picked it up and that it was renewed for another season. But, the direction and performances in this first episode of the third season were really poor. It seemed to me the director was rushing the dialogue, not giving the actors an opportunity to inhabit their characters. The dialogue was artificial rather than natural. Yet, I hold on to the hope that good actors, beloved characters and the beauty of Prince Edward Island will win out. Better writing and directors, please. My rating for this series has fallen to a 6.5 (potential, yet) out of 10. [Classic Canadiana:flag_ca:]
I LOVE THIS SHOW TOO MUCH I COULD CRY
I don't know how to express how I deeply love this show. Personally, I think this is the best adaptation in all of adaptations of Anne. I can't wait for season two, and I hope this show goes on until Anne grows up.
The 2nd season will be on July 6 not 24 september. ;)
I am so grateful I decided to give this show a try. I had come across it several times, never really willing to watch it, but doing it was the best decision of my life. Not only that, but I simply cannot express how this show gets into your heart, loving every character and empathizing with them. I consider myself to be a cold person when it comes to series, but this, this got me sobbing and grinning within the same episode, for several times! I will remember Anne and all people from Avonlea with a special warmth in my heart and I really really hope I, someday, decide to rekindle all the adventures shown here. Thank you, Anne of Green Gables.
I am simply not able to begin to explain what this show has done to me. I was told to watch it because it was an amazing show—a thing people always say, so that just went over my head—BUT, after viewing its rating here and on IMDB, I knew something special was hiding behind this show, and oh my I was right.
Upon watching the half of the first season, I was absolutely IN LOVE already, but shame on me; I hadn't even reached the best part of the plot's development. Season 2 & 3 were magical, in all senses. I'm not one to cry at all, but upon finishing the second season, I realized I had done it, and a lot, so for the third and final one, I decided to keep track of each time I cried.
FOURTY-THREE TIMES. Yes, 43. As for 10 episodes, an average of 4.3 crying episodes per... episode. Not a single show has ever been able to do this to me, not my favorite ones even! Anne with an E is in my top 3 shows ever. This has been a wild ride, and I would've loved if Netflix hadn't cancelled it. It had so much potential, all gone to waste for the capitalist ways of a shitty company.
Anne of Green Gables, you'll always be in my heart. Your personality and kindness are things that have marked my soul. I wish people were as ambitious and inspiring as you. I think we all need an Anne in our lives :rose:
ANNE IS SO ANNOYING there are some scenes that I have to skip past otherwise I will vom from cringiness tbh, but watched this w my mum and sister for the first time and we love it, it’s our show
I have read all the books, and many more of the other girl stories by LM Montgomery, and also seen over my life many iterations of the character, and varying faithfulness to the story, but never did I expect to find a better crafted Anne more supernally portrayed, whilst also managing to improve on the basic story with elements left out of the books but current in the day. Some things were inaccurate when touching upon certain historical themes but not enough to take away a greater relevance for the wider world outside of Epekwitk (PEI) of its time. A ravishing show that will be treasured by me, with only a tinge of sadness that the rest of the books won't be covered. I just hope it brings people to read the Anne books and discover what it means to see beyond the 'bend in the road' of the character's life.
I cannot even express how much i love this show, it will be the third time that i am going to watch it soon . Its amazing and totally different with great lessons
The best. Really like the
Music.
9 minute in and this girl IS Anne Shirley from the books! While I am an absolute fan of the Meghan Follows mini-series I have noticed differences between the books and the adaptation that can set you a little outside it (still love it more than anything). The very short part with Matthew and Marilla just felt right and the setting is perfect so far. The issues I worry about is if they drag it too long. Will update review as I go along
I haven't read the book but I absolutely love the series! Anne is adorable and it's so great to see her grow up. I'm super excited for the next season.
We need S04. They left sooooo many questions hanging.
Mannnn they better change their mind about cancelling this show or else they will have made a HUGE mistake.
The air dates are wrong again.
it doesn't show season 2 as being completed even though it is. Season 2 was just as brilliant as season 1
So so so good! It is completely like the book, and the casting is spot-on!!! Can't wait for the 2nd season.

SPECTACULAR!!! Spot on casting, authentic setting, faithful to the original book, wonderful acting, moving and joy filled drama. CBC on Sunday nights. I give it a 9 (superb) out of 10, only because I should probably see 2 episodes before granting it the 10 that I very much anticipate it will deserve. I feel as superlative as Anne. YAY!
