A few things I disliked about Arrow season 4:
- Darhk as a villain
- Malcolm being around but doing nothing
- Laurel not doing anything until she dies (I loved Laurel's development as a character and we got none of it this season)
- Felicity's 5 minute disability (there was a solid chance to have disabled representation here but it was just used as a dramatic plot device)
- Soap opera Olicity (I used to root for Oliver and Felicity, but I never wanted it to take over the show like it did this season)
- Felicity's mum being around all the time and making the show too comedic
- The Bee Lady episode (I like puns but it was too much and incredibly childish - it didn't feel like the script was written for this show or these characters and it felt so out of place)
- Oliver having a son
- Oliver hiding having a son
- Oliver's son increasing soap opera Olicity
- Literally everything taking a backseat for Olicity's relationship (there was so much to do with their romance this season and the will-they-wont-they did nothing for me)
- Island storyline being unmemorable
- Magic everywhere (come on, that was never what this show was about and it totally changes the tone and makes it look way more trivial)
Of all these things I think the magic was what didn't make season 4 work for me. It made the show lose some of it's original grit and altered the tone the first 3 seasons set up.
But I'm told season 5 takes the show back to it's old roots, so I have hope that Arrow was just a victim of the season 4 curse.
Far from as good as the Deathstroke days. Since this season has been too cutsie. Has too much about Olicity, too many Felicity scenes where she is with her mom, telling her dad off, healing her crippleness and just walking away from Oliver. Oh or scenes where she is arguing with her past self. I just hope they don't kill someone too good just so she wouldn't be on the tombstone.
The 4th season is getting annoying! It's always the same story: Oliver loose self estime, everyone try to cheer him up, he blame himself for everything, then he do something bad, everyone arround blame him, he blame himself, felicity cheer him up, everyone find someone else to blame, Oliver is awesome again. End of episode. I stopped watching this season.
The 3rd season was already becoming boring, especially after his 50 meters-in-the-snow-wounded-fall, which he survived with some medicinal herbs (Yeah!)...
Oliver and Felicity?? No way. He's way out of her league!!! :)
Boring boring boring... WtF is going on with all those crossovers with Flash, Constantine, Supergirl?? it's like they are out of ideas...
Season 3 was mediocre, but season 4 has a huge drop in quality (shoutout to Marc "Franchise Slaughterer" Guggenheim). If you are a fan of the series, do yourself a favor and stop watching. This is just a crudely stitched together collection of tumblr fanfics. The characters have lost any real personality, and just serve to move the plot forward (this season is plagued by writers using half-baked concepts to push the "plot" forward by brute force). They frequently make decisions that defy any form of logic as well as any character traits of note. Any development that the characters have made in the past seasons has just disappeared, seemingly because they oppose Guggenheim's Mary Sue couple. Also it would be a misconception to think that the villain is the basis of any overarching plot. He's just a side note to said couple. The CW's superhero shows have always been aimed at a more "teeny" audience, but at the levels that Guggenheim has taken it to, it seems like he would be better off writing those fanfics and letting someone with moderate respect for the story's integrity take over. I love the actors in this and wish them the best, but the only hope I can see for this show is to retcon this season and get a fresh team of writers because this may be the biggest train wreck I have ever witnessed make the air.
The worst piece of media ever made with this budget/effort put into it.
Kinda like season two of The Flash, this starts really well, has a great mid season cliffhanger and then loses its momentum in having to fill too many episodes with not enough story. It's still fun, though, more fun than season 3, mainly because of the less crybaby attitude of Oliver Queen and the over the top villain. Actions is always good, the closing stretch of episodes is really engaging and, amazingly, it looks like a couple of deaths will stick. But I have to say the flashbacks are atrocious. It's not a full return to form but it's a fun season.
Worst season so far for sure.
