At first, I wasn't sure how well they were gonna go with this Norman as a prequel to Hitchcock's masterpiece. Boy, was I wrong in being doubtful? Yes, I was. This is so amazing, Vera and Freddie do an incredible job altogether and the incorporation of other characters doesn't even feel forced at all. Loved every second of it.
Love this series. Always been a fan of Psycho and I adore how much they've incorporated all of the things from the original movie. Freddie Highmore is the perfect mix of creepy and sweet; and Vera Farmiga is amazing!
Phenomenal series! For a show thats plot changes so much from Season 1 to Season 5, the charm never disappears. The characters are wonderfully written, the plot never feels like there is much/any filler, and its greatest attribute is that it constantly frames the episodes to make you antsy for the next. I have now watched this show in its entirety twice, and one I think everyone should check out. While it is based on an iconic horror icon, do not let that deter you. This is much more of a crime drama and will appeal to a wide range of people.

The acting was good. But it cannot save the series from the pacing and disappointing story it tells. Got tired from the identity of Norma in Norman's mind. The ending was not rewarding for the 5 seasons it aired. Loved the violence and the consequences, but what really got me off was the overuse of the mother-son relationship.
I didn't really know what to expect going into this series, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

It was good from season 1-4. I believe season 5 died out a little without Norma, but I mean.. I guess she was still kind of there, it just wasn't the same. This show is extremely intense! 10/10 would recommend :)

I don't really understand the seemingly universal praise the show gets here.
All the characters in it are so incredibly unlike-able that its almost painful for me to watch. I shall try and power through the last 2 episodes for this season but I'm pretty certain that I won't pick it up next season if they don't have something incredible in store for the remaining two. The story is not THAT entertaining or interesting to keep me invested in this show and stomach all the nonsensical decisions and bullshit that horrible mother of that idiot son spouts...
I feel this show is so underrated... The acting is superb and writing is unbelievable. It's amazing really.
I just wish it was more appreciated and the actors awarded.

The show gets better and better as it goes on. The 1998 shot by shot remake of Psycho was just lazy. Bates Motel is brilliant and full of it's own ideas on how to approach the characters.

I've really enjoyed this show after I finished the fifth season last year. I'm planning to rewatch it right now, but wanted to review it already. I actually liked the entirely different ending the crew decided to use. Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore are performing both really, really good and I really like the way the writers/director made the overall ambiance darker and darker as the story continued. The ending was unexpected, but that might exactly what made it so good. Since watching this series I've become a huge fan of the acting skills of Freddie Highmore and I currently am watching The Good Doctor, where he plays an autistic doctor. It becomes clear that Freddie has much experience in the world of acting.
To conclude: this series is a beautiful addition to the world of entertainment and it shows the development of a mental illness in a very interesting way. You can also clearly notice the main reasons that Norman becomes what he is becoming. It honestly really is worth watching and one of my most favourite series of all time!

Ik moet nog seizoen 5 kijken daar begin ik dadelijk mee.
Denk dat ik er een weekje over gedaan heb om 4 seizoenen te kijken.
Als je eraan begint dan blijf je kijken.

Nunca me imaginé llegando al final de esta serie... voy a extrañar más de lo que imaginaba Norman. En especial el Norman inicial, tan tierno y adorable.

I like this a lot. Watched most of it with my mother (not really the best person to watch it with, at least you'd think!).
I hate the Sheriff Romero plot though. All I wanna see is Norman.
You need to watch this show. Not only if you love 'Psycho' because it is more than the film, this series is more than just Norman Bates, it is everything leading up to him becoming what he is.
Also, VERA FARMIGA. That is enough reason to watch because that woman is outstanding and her performance as Norma Bates is brilliant.

Episode 7 season 5. Not good sadly. Boring. Same old questions being asked and not much development. Let's hope we get a good finale. Shame because I loved the other seasons.

i didn't finish to watch this serie, but to me, it's weird watch a serie when the actors have iPhone and pretty nice cars from 2015. The movie was from 60`s so how is that normal? even so i'm still watching this serie.

An utterly surprising sleeper hit! Very well written and a great origin tale that we never knew existed. Great premise of the show being about the motel/town and not just Norman. A must watch.

I had my doubts when I first heard about this prequel being made, but after watching the first three episodes they were fortunately wrong. This show is absolutely amazing! Vera Farmiga (Norma) and Freddie Highmore (Norman) play so well together, and the rest of the cast is stellar. The show is very suspenseful and I haven't been bored a second.
This show is definitely a must watch. If you haven't seen it yet then I highly recommend saving some time to watch it, because once you do it will grip you and not let go.
