[7.9/10] A lot of fun stuff in this one. I enjoyed the parade of horribles for Linda, from a bad grocery store experience, to locking her keys in her car, to being stranded far from home, to a carousel of skunk spray, split pants, and broken glasses. Some of it veers into the loony, but it sells both the depths of her predicament and how much it means when at the end of the day she considers it a successful birthday given the adventure. And her standoff with the woman in charge of the chalk-stravaganza is tops.
Even better is Bob and the kids trying to make her a spa day and tracing her possible whereabouts based on her side trips with the kids. Gene at the sample store is a hoot (as is Bob’s quiet rebellion). The employees at the hotel where Linda goes to poop glad-handing Bob is very funny (especially the “She likes to B.M. in the P.M.” song). And Louise loving to pet the puppies despite her “young hoodlum” pose is very cute. Bob being glad that after all these years, he’s still finding little surprises out about Linda is just as sweet.
Overall, this is a fun caper for the whole family, and I like how it lands on Linda being glad for what she can still accomplish on her birthday, even if she went into it insecure.
