[8.8/10] I can’t say I had a strong desire to have the show bring Millie back after her brilliantly deranged turn in “Fort Night” but this was outstanding. Having Louise go Silence of the Lambs with Millie as her Hannibal Lecter whilst investigating a mystery at school is a stellar premise, and the show goes at it with its usual combination of fun and absurdity. The depths of Millie’s Louise obsession, the quid pro quo for play dates in exchange for mystery help, and the trampoline-focsed casting aside of Tina and Gene all worked like gangbuster.
There’s two things I liked about it in particular. For one thing, the reveal of the mystery is good. Having the dolls be destroyed by the teachers themselves to avoid having to pay for the water park trip is not only a fun twist, but there’s even some nice clues like Frond mentioning the coffee pods beforehand. The other is that it provides a little emotional connection between Millie and Louise, with some of the show’s trademark empathy for oddballs and weirdos the world over. It’s nice to see Louise warming to Millie just a little, despite her denials.
And the B-story with Bob, Linda, and Teddy about the inspirational posters is just as fun. I’m always a sucker for Teddy stories, and his joust-y relationship with his business (not romantic) partner is a comic gem every time. Plus, Linda being over the moon about the posters, but Bob being reluctant until he “gets it” is a great place to take the story.
Overall, it’s another strong Bob’s Burgers episode, with the show seemingly proving that it has plenty of gas left in the tank in its eighth season.
