I find The I In Team to be a combination of greatness and mediocrity, though the mediocrity here overwhelms the greatness. The greatness is everything Scoobies related and Spike's words about the fragility of the group bond is coming to fruition. Spike himself is again fantastic and the writers have at their disposal arguably the most dynamic single character of the show. He's hilarious and all around delightful regardless of the role he occupies in the show.

The problems with the episode stem from the Initiative storyline and how quickly Professor Walsh goes from accepting Buffy into this organization to realizing she has to kill her . It's problematic storytelling and even more problematic is the ending, which introduces ADAM as the Big Bad for the remainder of the season .

The Initiative storyline is thinning with each new episode and my enthusiasm for it is dimming rapidly. The drama here is a bit too ordinary and stale for a show accustomed to dealing with very real emotions and The Initiative is a transparent element of the season.

"Mother" reminds me of that psychiatrist brain lady from season 8 of Dexter, Vogel.

This military thing is really annoying.

Edit: And right at the end, that professor bitch is dead.

The cross cutting was a very strange choice.
