Season 5 is where I feel Sarah Michelle Gellar's acting really went up a few notches. Buffy got markedly more serious.

And that goes double for season 6. (Spoiler removed)

HO-LY FUCK
This was my first time seeing this. Hush scared me when it originally aired, but not on a re-watch. This made me jump and unnerved me. This may be one of the only episodes that is actually meant to be frightening, and it is. The synopsis sounds ridiculous, but it's very well shot, and, though I'm no cosmologist or molecular biologist, the science in it sounded competent and relevant. Sad Riley is also more likeable. I laugh at his pain normally, but here he seems to have more depth. Spike didn't need to be in this episode. Dawn and Joyce were great, and essential.

Scary shit. One of the best episodes of the show IMO, and a good standalone.

I never would’ve thought I’d flash on The Incredible Shrinking Woman when watching a Buffy episode.
