Is this supposed to make me forgive Spike?

I hope they don't drag the "Spike is cuckoo" storyline through all the season. It gets annoying.

I was all looking forward to Spike having a soul again but the change is subtle. And instead of wanting Buffy to know he hides it and acts like a jerk. I guess that's the First making Spike its b*tch.
