I'm sure the producers and writers would love to have Stana Katic around full time, but the choice was her's, not theirs. She almost didn't come back this season, and clearly having less episodes to do this year was part of the deal if she returned. It seems they are using the current storyline to write her off the show, and writing Toks/Hayley in as a replacement female lead.

What a load of crap. Becket is not even in this episode. No wonder this is the last season.

I said it when they made Castle disappear in the wedding fiasco: a whole episode without Nathan Fillion, yet Stana Katic made it work flawlessly. If it was Beckett missing for an entire episode, I doubt it would be any good. Well, here's proof. The show might be called Castle and revolve around him, but it's hollow without her.
Anyway... 16 more episodes to go. Hopefully they'll fix the situation soon? It would be a shame to waste this way all the final season.

A fun episode since Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin are great together. But where the hell was Beckett ? Her needing a break from her marriage with Castle is hurting ratings.
Having episodes totally without her definitely won't help ratings. The writers are awful in that regard. Since they find new ways to keep Castle and Beckett together.
Fans have had a problem with that since day one. But they won't get the hint.
