I've watched a few episodes and got really bored of it. It's shot and edited in a typical MTV-show style too, which doesn't appeal to me as it's aimed at instant gratification and (false) suspense.
Aside from that, every single episode has the same thing in common. A person has had contact with someone online and developed a connection. They want to meet him/her but that person always ends up making an excuse not to. They've only seen a few pictures of the person and never on webcam. Those two things would be a gigantic red flag to any sensible person, but not these people! Because of this it's completely predictable. And yes, that person never ends up being the person who they said they were.
They only pick out the people who's "relationship" meets this criteria. Or else this would just be a "help-people-get-together" kind of show. You basically keep watching to find out what the person really looks like, that's it.
I've watched the movie, which was really exciting. But I can basically write a script for the next season myself (I'm not implying there is one, but it's so linear it could easily be).
Everyone should watch this show to learn tricks of catfishes
Turn this shit off and git outside - love, dad
A more apt title is: CarCrash. You can't look away and you know what you're going to see. It's somewhat sad that the people who get involved in these relationships sort of know they are being duped but can't stop themselves.
I don't think the show has long for TV unless they manage to shake up the format a bit.
What happened to S08E59? I can't find it anywhere!
It started out quite interesting and seemingly legit, but it was quick to become predictable and very, very cleary staged.
The formula is pretty much set in stone: Person has been in a relationship online with the catfish (who 9 out of 10 times is a either a model or rapper) for the past 3 months and has the deepest connection ever.
They want to meet up, but the catfish always has an excuse not to (it's a running joke on the show, the big C's most commonly used: cancer, car accidents, coma), and the person is completely blind to all the red flags.
They only have seen pictures, sometimes just 1 or 2, never videochatted or sometimes EVEN TALKED ON THE PHONE!
The hosts do a reverse picture search, and in 2 seconds find the real person's social media. The person being helped is in complete disbelief, even though it would make no sense this super hot rich model/rapper is dating a random ass person from the middle of nowhere.
They end up just straight up contacting the catfish to force a meet-up, they refuse, then a day later agree. They meet, it's hella awkward and dramatic, and everyone goes their own way. Sometimes they do an update 2 months later, is always the same thing, they cut contact because the person couldn't get over the catfish being ugly/fat and the connection was spoiler alert not that deep after all.
Sometimes they change the plot, and the catfish is actually the person in the pics, but then it makes it seem like whole thing was planned to get free plane tickets. They do try to make these episodes seem very wholesome, but it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Long story short I would never recommend this show to anyone, unless you're like me and enjoy having it on as background noise.
What the heck is even going on with season 8 anymore.. is it like ever going to end and go to season 9.. we have had 4 midseason finales in season 8 alone..
Becomes predicable after a few episodes...
so glad this show is on. it makes you think before becoming friends with just anyone over the net
I really liked this show when it started.
With Season two, i feel like i don't even need to watch the whole thing.
I keep skipping through and keep getting bored.
Mostly I already know how it ends,
because the Catfish Facebook spoils it before i am even able to watch it.
Nev is lovely tho, and i find him inspiring, sometimes.
Overall it's a good show, well if you don't follow the facebook site
or don't have any friends or you just like seing people lie so much that it hurts.

The show started out OK but it’s quick to repeat the same formula and fake crap. It’s also hard to watch Max and his forced soyboy ultra liberal bullshit.
