Of all the supporting characters on the show, none are as relatable and complex than Man-Bok (Young-Min Kim) and his family, a wiretapper whose wife made an out-of-fashion birthday dress and son bullied by his classmates for having a "rat" father.

His backstory is more richly developed on this episode, setting him up as a key figure in the fate of Se-Ri (Ye-Jin Son) and Jung-Hyuk (Bin Hyun).

This series started as a romcom, with cliched South Korean characters and setup. But over the last couple of episodes, it is wisely investing in North Korea nuances and minor North Korean characters. This episode does shuffle back and forth to cliched elements (especially when it switches to South Korea with some cringe inducing characters), but all in all, it is setting itself nicely for potentially big payoff.
