8.5/10. The mother/daughter fashion show stuff had a few chuckles, but otherwise didn't rise above pleasant for me. But the Daria-Trent-Jane storyline was superb. The show does such a great job at these well-observed interactions between people, especially young people, that feel so real and subtle. Daria's various reactions to Trent in the piercing hut (jealousy at Monique, embarrassment at being the kid sister's friend, happiness at being called cool) felt genuine and layered. Daria's a character with a staid exterior, but such a rich inner life that the show depicts with great nuance. Still good laughs and cutting remarks as always, but it's the well-crafted characters who know and feel more than they say that puts this show over the top.
