Opening with Max reclaiming more juice from the power main she pirated so she can boil water for the therapeutic comfort of a hot bath, at the expense of her co-squatter's grow room, is the type of casual realism of a cyberpunk setting that I can't think of any other show or film that takes this realistic tac with instead of overdramatizing it or ignoring the degenerate domestic realities of a failed modern society on the verge of collapse. It's a pity this show got cancelled due to America's super navel gaze mode that was induced by 9/11-- not just because it was fun and light escapism, but because it was starkly relevant to what was already the reality for some in this country, and was waiting for more as our dysfunctional system continued to collapse and further destroy last generation's faded middle class paradigm.
