8.5/10
What a really great Christmas special, this episode was
the gift that kept on giving.
I wish Rosita would have stayed, I liked her and wouldn't have minded at all seeing more of her.
David and David played
Perfectly off each other and having The Doctor
In the companion shows
Even for a moment was
Genius.
Love my Christmas Specials

I SUPPOSE IN THE END
THEY BREAK MY HEART.

This episode was a surprise banger. David Morrissey kills as The Doctor and Jackson Lake. He has such an infectious energy that was so compelling to watch and when the truth of his identity is revealed that pathos is brilliantly conveyed. His chemistry with David Tennant was also phenomenal. This era for 10 is so sad and overwhelmed by his loneliness so seeing someone go out of their way to connect with him is beautiful. I love Lake starting the rally cry for 10's praise at the end and insisting he come to christmas dinner they were just beautiful moments overall.
I also loved Velile Tshabalala as Rosita. She had what every companion should with energy and great chemistry with Lake and the Doctor. Also her slapping racist ass Mss Hartigan felt minorly redeptive after all the shit martha was put through in Family of Blood.
Speaking of Miss Hartigan I really liked her as a villain. Dervla Kirwan really sell Hartigan's arrogance and vengeful spirit. The iconic costuming with that vivid red dress makes her stand out all the more. I'm not a huge fan of RTD era Cybermen stories but I do appriciate that this story takes a different angle to them and gives us a distinct memorable angaonist at the centre of the plot.
Overall solid a Christmas special.
