I feel the phrase "I'm lost" can't quite sum up how I feel about the last two episodes. The Weeping Angles episode was unbelievably good and it just turned so bad so quickly. Totally lost on all of this and I understand more will be revealed soon but right now... I'm not sure how much I care.
Not sure if it was due to COVID but this was far too rushed, the last two episodes needed to be doubled if not tripled.
Are we sure the Sontarans are supposed to be a militaristic race and not a keystone coppers race? What exactly are we supposed to feel when we see them on the screen because they are humorous and not at all a risk, not even to the companions. They have the worst possible aim and just stand there waiting to be shot. It's weird.
What the actual fuck did I just watch. The writer of this garbage should be taken out the back & shot then people should take turns shitting on him. This is beyond terrible. I think we may need to retire from watching Doctor Who.
Something is definitely wrong when I notice that the editing in an episode of TV is bad. And not just the editing from scene to scene; it's even more jarring when there are pretty distracting continuity issues when changing shots within a scene.
Anyway, this was pretty underwhelming. I'm sure this would feel more like a conclusion if the season actually built up to this.
I'd say that in general this season had some of the best Jodie episodes for me, and Dan quickly became my favorite of her companions... but nothing changes the fact that there was just too much going on. Too many characters, too many plots to tie together. I shouldn't be very surprised by my disappointment... but I was surprised anyway, there was so much wasted potential.
In the end, there was zero pay-off with Swarm, Azure, and Passenger, they were gone in seconds and there was never any big revelation. Swarm loved to talk as if he was secretly someone tied to the Doctor's past (in the same vein as The Master or another past Time Lord), but was just someone going up against "Division" I guess? (I'm starting to think they're overestimating how interesting the "Division" plotline is.)
The Grand Serpent was absolutely of no consequence other than to bring back Kate Stewart I suppose, yet her interactions with the Doctor were small, and not really as fun as they could've been? And also... so... many... Sontarans. Why so much focus on the Sontarans and their plans, when they already had an entire episode about their conquest, and were defeated before? I don't know if it's because COVID affected the amount of episodes, but everything just fell flat as hell.
I hate being so negative - I really did enjoy these episodes more than the past couple of seasons and there were plenty of memorable moments, including great supporting characters. But it feels so frustrating that they didn't capitalize on all the buildup. I'm definitely looking to the Thirteenth Doctor's specials though - maybe we will see some of it come back and get a better resolution. All I hope is Jodie gets the sendoff she deserves, because even though I had plenty of issues with this era of Doctor Who, she's a great performer and wonderful Doctor.
If I asked my child with ADHD to write Doctor Who fan fiction this is the result I'd expect.
After watching this season along with my wife (her first time watching) I asked her "Did you understand it?" Her response was "NO". I laughed and said "I thought it was just me!" I haven't a clue what this was all about! I was beginning to lose interest rapidly but forged on to the end in hope but, alas, it got more confusing.
I have watched Dr Who from Day One and have to say since Jodie took over as the Doctor, the writing has lost direction and it has done a great disservice to such a wonderful actress!!!
Dr Who was aimed at a young audience but I'm afraid to say it's becoming too confusing for kids nowadays.
KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid is easily applied to it now!
Wow, that was bad. Things happened until something else happened. No real choices or thought provoking material here. It is a pity because there are some ideas that could be really good with a competent writer but as per his usual style an exposition dump or Deus ex machina solves everything in the end. Like a roller-coaster you get to the end and wonder what happened. Really dodgy wordless storytelling and lots of jump cuts.
I liked it. It wasn’t as good as maybe I wanted it to be, but it was solid! 8/10
I've seen many bad Doctor Who episodes, but this one might actually be the worst.
What the hell is going on?!?!??
Well, as far as let downs go, 10/10 for this one.
Can't believe he dropped the ball like this, 4 good episodes to end like this. I really hope there's more to it in those 3 specials.
as usual chibnal completely shits the bed in the last episode of anything he writes
It was a nice way to wrap up most of the stories and solving the Flux problem. But I really would’ve liked to know who Azure and Swarm really were. And what about the Grand Serpent’s infiltration in UNIT?

if anyone ever wants a definition of the term "anti-climax" then i think it's really great that we now have the perfect example
