This series tries to eagerly check all boxes, shifting its topic/genre from episode to episode: It starts of with discovering/understanding Yokai (but very poor in comparison to shows like "Natusme's Book of Friends"), then it heads over to the "spirits in a magic book" trope (with a kind of card collector's feeling), dabbles a bit in horror/suspense, school and slice of life anime, but utterly disappoints in every genre. This show clearly lacks some kind of story direction. Also characters are flat/stereotypical and do not develop during the course of the first season, even the MC doesn't really seem to evolve much.
As much as the show's excerpt promised quite some potential for great story and character development, the first season fails at both unfortunately.
