This is unabashedly a soap. It has all the melodrama one might expect: exaggeration, histrionics, extravagance, high emotion, sentiment, a buffoon character and, as the writers of this show like to poke fun at themselves, plot twists so rare to life that you’d probably only ever see them in soaps. However, leaving the genre to speak for itself, this series also has some great actors that you should follow in other dramas. I was drawn to it following Park Eun-bin’s filmography, but I also appreciate the work of Kim Sun-young and will be looking for other projects by Shin Dong-mi. The plot lines around Dong-Hui (Eun-bin’s character) and Han Jung-eun was where I settled in the series, The broad comedy does not interest me (6s) and I have to confess that I skipped through the story lines of Sung-SIk (the buffoon) and Ae Ri and her Operatic Baritone. Being a soap (and 50 episodes long) there is time given to each the diverse story lines around the members of this family, grandmothers, aunties, cousins, fathers, mothers, 3 sons, one daughter, 2 grandsons, two granddaughters, but the action rarely lags and the twists and turns are the things of epic soap. I enjoyed the ride. I recommend this series and give it a high 7 (entertaining and heartwarming) out of 10. [Soap Family Drama]
