it's not a great Fringe episode but it's definitely one hell of a season premiere, just a perfect blend of apocalyptic sci-fi crusade and family/love drama. Also, Only You by Yazoo is one of the best songs ever made so there's that too ( FYI I'm referring to the soundtrack during the last scene with Walter in the abandoned taxi, not just blurting out nonsense here in the comments ahahah ).

Such a weird pivot for the series to take. I dislike what they did to Observers: they go from cool mysterious figures on the edge of events to generic totalitarian bad guys. Completely ruins the mystique they'd built up over the previous 4 seasons.
The reunion between the parents and Etta obviously had to happen, but it's an empty scene for the viewer. We don't know Etta as a character, not even as a toddler. So this emotional reunion has zero impact.
It's kind of hilarious that Anil, another resistance leader-type-guy, also has a Scottish accent. It's like they couldn't snag Henry Ian Cusick for a full season, so here's the replacement.

If the Observers' goal is to merely take over the world because their future Earth is all fucked, then why not go back further in history? It'd be a way easier conquest with the technology difference. Considering the Observers can see all of time, you'd think they'd realize this.

One good thing about this season only being 13 episodes is that there's less time for filler.

Yaz’s “Only You” perfectly sealing that symbol of hope. Love it so much.

Another complete shift in how it was made. At times, this season felt like any number of bland sci-fi b-grade series made during the 1990s and 2000s, complete with impassive, a robotic arch-nemesis, dodgy dystopian special effects - plus the addition of some Monty Python inspired cartoon graphics.
