I really wish they would do a reality check when doing Episodes about gaming tournaments.
There is literally ZERO chance, that someone playing for the first time gets into a serious tournament. This is why we have news segments making jokes about training in airquotes.
To make this more clear: It is like me playing tennis for the first time and instantly qualifiying to wimbledon. IT JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN.
Also: Every tournament with price money and I never heard of an in-person tournament without price money (It costs a ton of money to organize them - especially with the travel expenses as most people don't live near the sites) requires you to register and provide valid ID.
