Glee: Season 2

2x18 Born This Way

While I like that Quinn is a layered character and not just the typical mean girl (which she hasn't been for a long time, truly) I do think that this backstory was too much. Though I get what the writers tried to do here. The contrast between Quinn and Lauren in that Quinn used to be a big girl who wanted to change the way she looks in order to feel more like herself and Lauren; who has so much self love and confidence and seemingly no desire to change the way she look at all
The shirts were a nice touch too.

It’s just not right the way Mr Schuester keeps getting involved in women business, the way he is telling Emma how to deal with HER OCD and Rachel what to do with HER own body, so disgusting!!! Mr Schuester worst man ever!!!

I think the message of this episode is great, but the actual plot revolving Quinn gets in the way. They keep bringing up how she looked in the past, calling her a fraud for doing thing like losing weight (wtf?). It's good to show Quinn that she didn't deserve the bullying and isolation she got before, but it's weird to try and make her feel bad for looking different now. How can you preach acceptance if you decry a person's appearance just because it's changed?

I absolutely adore the "Born This Way" performance - iconic

(also, I'm just very confused why anyone in the school would look at the Lucy poster and know it's Quinn. Like, no even knows that's her first name.)
