Homeland: Season 7

7x02 Rebel Rebel

A once experienced CIA operative browses the web from a laptop that contains unsecured secret files, then gets a ransomware AND a trojan virus.

What kind of bullshit is this?

What the actual fuck.
Carrie forgets all her training and experience to enable the plot. That ransomware, as refreshing as it was to see, was complete and utter bullshit. Let's ignore that these encryption ransomwares are built to make it as anonymous as possible and the hacker apparently read some of it (how? / why?) knowing he shouldn't screw with someone like Carrie, literally and metaphorically.
But creating a communication line was hilariously stupid. Tracking the connection would have been easily doable. But no, no, no. We need drama and the incredibly stupid idea of Carrie flashing a stranger. Without even thinking that he perhaps records it and blackmails her with that, too. This whole thing was very cringeworthy and so akward.
It was also surprisingly convenient that the hacker was in an area where Carrie could drive to, wasn't it?

It's all to show how desperate and angry Carrie is, fine, but all it does is displaying stupidity in the process.
A level of stupidity that is infuriating to watch.

What a pointless filler episode. Concerned citizen.

What the actual fuck was that? A trojan? Really?
I've seen Carrie be sloppy and not thinking ahead, but this was just dumb.

You have Max to do computer shit but instead you get trapped by trying to identify someone by yourself into "the Deep Web". Then you "sell" your body to get to this predator (it works!!!) and at the end is just a super freak that want it to screw... Ogggg
At least it seems this subplot it's over, because it was cheesy as hell.

This episode really fastened the plot. The scene at the end was just fantastic. It kept me at the edge of my seat. That is what Homeland really is best at even though it's most of the time not a fast paced action show.

Granted. Carrie opening the file was not very spy like but it fits her state of mind in this episode very well. She's desperate, has no one to turn to and slips.

This show lost the plot. But with the end very clear in sight, I'll probably suffer through these maddeningly bad episodes just to see how it ends.

And the file executes without opening it. That is strange. Also an exe it would be sent in a compressed folder or sent bij macro in a docx file. It just looked strange this way as fake jpg that auto executes.

I love Homeland but Carrie should have been smarter than that.

This might have been one of the worst Homeland episodes ever.

Season 6 was very good and I like where things seem to be going with 7, but this episode was very strange indeed. The whole hacking business was some Black Mirror -esque plot that didn't really belong here, I suppose the point was to get to that episode ending and further deteriorate Carrie's mental state... but hell, compared to season 1 it was like fan fiction.

Max, who could solve the unsolvable on that secret bunker last season, couldn't do anything against some guy from 4chan????

Don't know how I feel about Saul being so public, I'm intrigued to see what happens there. Other than that, the only real thing achieved by this episode is a small gash on O'Keefe's head
