7.5/10. This is a version of Barney and Robin that at least makes sense: ignoring their feelings, struggling to express themselves, and falling into a "just point and shoot" mentality. I never enjoy Lily taking over other people's lives like this, but at least the episode delves a little bit into the relationship and explores the pairing as something more than a schoolyard crush from Barney. The lie-bleeding-into-a-truth conceit on the girlfriend/boyfriend front is a neat-if-cheesy trick, and in the end, it works well enough for what the episode is going for.

Ted's first day as a professor is a pretty delightful B-story though. I appreciate when the show doubles down on his pretentiousness and shows him as the sort of endearing dweeb he works best as. His sincere responses to the econ class's sarcastic remarks were hilarious, and the concept that by the time he got to his actual class, he was too frazzled to overthink things was a nice beat for him. Plus, he and Marshall going crazy for the Indiana Jones hat and whip felt true to both of their characters and led to some funny moments. A nice little kickoff for the season.
