this is pretty different to other episodes of #9. the "twist" is earlier and not immediately obvious. the meat of the episode is instead the family moments and that makes this a special episode

A subtle, quiet drama. Quite different to most of the show but wholly undeserving of its low rating.

In my opinion the best episode yet! A thoughtful and intimate drama, with a beautiful minimalism to its production, that is still extremely potent at telling quite the story. I personally feel like the ratings for this episode are so low because it gives the impression of being well written drama short film that at the last step of its writing cyclus has been retroactively modiefied to contain a "twist" so that it can be produced as an "Inside No. 9" episode. On top of that it is rather obvious, and there is no striking reveal, it just slowly creeps up on the viewer as a suspicious that is than reaffirmed rather anticlimactically at the very end.
To me that approach is rather clever, though lacking in execution and even necessity as the episode, as I already said, would make for better television without it. It's a welcome change though, especially because it greatly contrasts the second episode of the fifth season, which has obvious, predictable and cliched twists that hit the viewer right in the face.
