Mac's storyline really makes this episode great. However the stuff with the other 4, except maybe Dennis almost brings it down. I've said it previously but I'm not sure what DeVito adds any more other than being the older incompetent idiot (and there's already plenty of those).
[6.0/10] Another one that’s a bit of a dud. It’s the kind of approach I usually like, with a frame story that allows for some jumping around and showing things from one character’s skewed perspective. But man, the stuff just wasn’t there.
The show has again gotten meta, with (I guess) the real life folks reflecting on their own success and worrying about having to change or maintain things. So Charlie is frantic trying to keep it all under control. Dee is losing customers with her forced humor since she thinks it’s her comedy that’s making things work. Dennis goes overboard with maintaining his appearance. Frank’s insanity is indiscriminate without a plan from the rest of the group to focus him. And Mac, in a bid to have a muscular “avatar” do all his work, tries to get buff but just gets fat.
It’s not like there’s nothing there (for whatever reason, I got a big kick out of Charlie retreating to “the crevice”) but it just doesn’t amount to much. There’s something to the gang inevitably giving up on success and just screwing around as usual, but the frame story element didn’t work as well as it needed to, and the whole thing just felt kind of aimless.
Overall, a decent idea, but a lot of dead spots and material that fell flat.
ngl I was also mesmerized by Charlie's dance
mike o hearn feature is so epic
