Not my favorite episode of the show. Televangelists are pretty clearly evil, taking advantage of people's faith for abhorrent monetary gain. But they're also low hanging fruit. While it's surprising how much money they can amass, it's no secret that they're scummy and prey on innocent people. But 1. Oliver didn't wring the laughs out of the situation he's normally able to (maybe because this whole thing is pretty sad) and 2. He didn't offer a concrete step to be taken to try to improve the situation. Part of that is because it's tricky to regulate even the shadiest of televangelists in light of the First Amendment and not wanting to hinder legitimate charities and non-profits.

Granted, I do enjoy that he's founding a "church" as an exercise in exposing how ridiculous this whole scheme is. It reminds me of Colbert's SuperPAC. But I don't know, I didn't laugh, learn, or see a good path to improvement as much as I usually do with Oliver. Maybe he's just a victim of the high standards he's already set.
