Det. Carisi is the one who screwed the pooch with the infinity rapist. I new right away when he said that he ran the DNA through the ancestral site for a familial match was illegal and inadmissible. As a detective his character should have known the law and that he couldn't do that. I guess would never have gotten his identity otherwise though.
