[8.2/10] One of the best lego shorts I’ve seen so far. There’s a little added real estate here relative to the two-to-three minute runtime of the others, and the short uses that time well.
Starting off with a Poe rescue of Admiral Akbar is a nice way to bridge the gaps between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy, and at the same time, pairing u C-3P0 and BB-8 makes for a nice twist on a classic dynamic as well. As if often the case, C-3P0 is the star of the show here, and his whinging about his red arm or fearing the worst as usual is really entertaining.
There’s also some surprisingly good action. There’s a lot of slapstick silliness to Poe bursting onto a Star Destroyer and finding Akbar (trooper bowling, stampedes, etc.), but once things get out into space, the dogfight in the asteroid field is top notch. Poe’s ship switcheroo trick is rousing, and the fight gives everyone a little bit to do.
Overall, this was a fun and energetic way to do these shorts, which help introduce the new characters and mix and match them with the familiar ones in a cool fashion.
