natalie holt's scores give me SO many goosebumps
Lol guess I'm the minority here, but this was the worst episode to me, so far. A lot of convenient coincidences and easy solutions (Sylvie suddenly trusts the woman who ruined her life and prunes herself, believing that Loki is alive??). And that Loki fight scene seemed... idk, weird to me, for some reason.
I have a feeling that the ending will be meh, like for WandaVision (and of course, we'll have some teaser for another show or movie in this universe).
A really good episode, i think the best one by now, most of them have been good except episode 3. Loved all the marvel universe references and how likeable Old and young lokis are, old Loki was amazing. Hope the last episode is as good as this one or even better
Best Episode so far waiting for finale:fire:
Hopefully next episode they reveal something insane
Natalie Holt deserves an Emmy for her amazing pieces in Loki.
GLORIOUS!!!!! PURPOSE!!!!! :crocodile: :crown: :crocodile: :crown: :crocodile: :crown: I actually teared up a little over Old Man Loki and it was, in fact, glorious.
Classic Loki FTW! Also, Kid Loki and Alligator Loki were awesome!
I want every episode to last 2 hours long.
I swear, this is the most bats--t insane comicbook thing the MCU has ever produced, and I LOVE it.
Just keeps getting better and better. The addition of more Loki variants allows for Journey Into Mystery to have some great tongue in cheek moments as the ridiculous nature of it's own premise starts to bleed into the show itself. There's an alligator variant for crying out loud (and he's a good boy), so clearly the writers here are aiming to be as creative as possible with the possibilities. And thankfully, they still manage to keep the story focused on the development of the Loki we do know, as well as Sylvie who we've gotten to really love over the course of the show.
And from a technical perspective, wow this ruled! The effects work here is nothing short of spectacular, Natalie Holt's score is tremendous (might be the best MCU score all things considered, sorry Ludwig), and Richard E. Grant absolutely steals the show as Classic Loki. With only one episode to go, I'm curious on how this will all wrap up, but considering the track record so far my hopes are high.
[7.8/10] Human beings are social animals. We strive to forge connections within our communities and tribes, to find friends and confidantes that make our lives worth living. It’s a cliché on television -- the found family, which completes the protagonist in some way and shows how we yearn for that sort of completion, to be sustained by bonds that lift us up rather isolated by our own hang-ups and insecurities.
I don’t know if Frost Giants are social animals too, but Loki seems to be. And that seems to be the point of Loki the T.V. series -- that even the being almost intrinsically inclined to betray anyone who gets close to him, finds the value in fortifying those bonds rather than severing them.
It is moving when our Loki hugs Mobius and calls him a friend. It’s adorable when he and Sylvie cuddle up beneath an unsnuggly blanket, admit that neither of them knows quite how to do this, but find comfort in their mutually-sustained growth, nonetheless. It’s brilliant when Classic Loki (in the form of a scenery-chewing Richard E. Grant) uses his immense powers of illusion to distract the smoke kaiju, Alioth and finds “glorious purpose” in sacrificing himself to help save his fellow man and maybe the universe in the process. It’s stirring when Loki decides to stay and fight with Sylvie, and the pair join hands and achieve the power to enchant even a towering monster through their joint effort and bond.
I didn’t expect this to be the thrust of Loki, but in hindsight, I probably should have. True to its title, the show is a character piece, founded on examining what makes Loki(s) tick. Flipping the character’s natural back-stabbing impulses on their head, examining why he and his variants are so apt to play the long con, but ultimately showing the growth it takes to embrace rather than use those closest to you, is a satisfying journey for the character, even with one more episode to go.
There's also some pure comic book-y fun to be had here. The show all but promised us a succession of Lokis, and having the pruned variants congregate and do battle with one another in “The Void” is a blast. The way the various Lokis turn on one another, seemingly on a dime, plays for comedy what our Loki will eventually grow from. And seeing the absurdity of an alligator Loki, or Mobius driving a pizza delivery truck, or the other comical mishegoss that “Journey Into Mystery” deploys, proves to be tons of fun.
Plot-wise there’s plenty to latch onto here as well. I’m intrigued by the concept of The Void at the end of time finding a way to move past it using Sylvie’s powers, and confronting whoever is truly the man behind the curtain at the TVA. At the same time, I like Renslayer playing a long game herself, unwilling to throw in her lot with Sylvie, but also seemingly wanting to get to the bottom of what the real story of the TVA is. That combination of antagonist and potential victim creates interesting motivations for Renslayer, and I’m intrigued as to where her research with Miss Minutes and conversation with Hunter B-15 will lead.
In terms of visuals, there’s the smack of unreality to just about everything in the void (and the green-screening was more conspicuous than usual), but honestly, that works for an interdimensional dumping ground for temporal bric-a-brac. The design work on Alioth is striking in the visage of a glowing dinosaur skull surrounded by smoke, and the Classic Loki illusion scenes in particular find neat framings to convey the glory and satisfaction of the character in his grand gesture.
Overall though, this one comes down to our various Lokis growing up, finding soulmates and true friends, and having that unlock power and happiness they never knew was possible. That’s a life-affirming place to take this show, one that I didn’t expect, but that maybe I should have. It’s a natural place to evolve this character, and whether he has a place in the MCU timeline after the events of Endgame or not, I hope we get a little more of this new, revitalized God of Mischief, Outcasts, or Love, one with the insights of his classic counterpart, destined to do a little better.
T H A T Classic Loki scene........ GLORIOUS PURPOSE
Yes. It gets worse as it goes. Honestly, maybe even the worst of the whole series. No fucking sense whatsoever. How did the Loki knew Loki was gonna appear there? Why didn't they knew that about the woman Loki? How in such a small world the mayority of people are Loki? A question: Do the TVA catch the odd Loki when he borns as an alligator, with a different face? Or just when something big happens in their timeline? Having a differente face or being an alligator ain't different enough?
I guess this all could be nitpick, but when you have so little or relevant or affecting in a series, these question are the only things that pop up. (Also, maybe the worst part is that this is 40 minutes. Series like Barry and Silicon Valley have proved that you can have a great series with 30 minutes. This is pointless, Loki is just a movie cut like a series.)
8.5/10
Alligator:crocodile::crown: Loki is something I didn’t know I needed.
By far my favorite moment of the season so far is Aligator Loki biting off Bad Loki's hand and his little scream afterward.
This show feels like it's lost a lot of focus since Episode 1 and 2. The Loki's while great viewing, really didn't add much - apart from an excellent addition to the finale. A lot of the middle was too chaotic without purpose. Natalie Holt's score has been a standout and hopefully she continues to be picked up for more projects.
Where the heck did Mobius go?
Just as the Loki go fight the big bad monster, Mobius opens a portal to... the TVA??? Wasn't it repeatedly established that there's no escape from that part of the timeline?
I really don't care to rewatch and see what I missed that explains this. It's an entertaining show, but IMO forgettable :unamused:
This episode was awesome. It had so much going for it and I felt myself cheering for the win.
Welcome to a big show!11 that's what I love about MARVEL
It's still better than episode 3, and I'm more invested than I was with WandaVision and Falcon and Winty.
Also, like this sentiment from Film Crit Hulk:
"The thing is there’s also very good thematic stuff alluded to in this episode, too. Basically all of Grant’s observations about being 'the god of outcasts' and how every version of them is broken. I particularly liked the idea of how nothing CAN change until the the TVA is stopped, which gives way to the most interesting meta idea the show has presented so far: that the TVA is sort of the “gods of comic-dom” and only wants traditional versions of characters we’ve seen so far (read: what uptight, reactionary nerds often want). And now, in a post-Spider-Verse world, pre-multi-verse world all bets are off… We now live in the age of variants.
So let’s hope we see some actual variance."
SCORE: 7/10
Worst episode of the season. It reminded me of the Wandavision finale. Big spectacle but oh so boring and meaningless. The smoke monster and the 3 new characters looked stupid as hell.
I did like the intimate scene between Loki and Sylvie, though.
alligator loki and classic loki, my beloved
Awesome! Those strange chickens, the award but lovely moments between Loki and Sylvie, Mobius returning and that lovely hug with Loki, that other Loki conjuring Asgard, and the exciting ending. I cannot wait to find out how this'll end :)
What the f...? Whoever wrote this crud must have been on drugs. And why was the guns on that ship firing some thing that looked like burning catapult boulders. I didn't think the quality of the writers could sink any further but apparently it could.
Glorious Purpose!!! :crocodile::crown: This episode was definitely a tear jerker. I absolutely loved the whole thing. I can't wait for the last episode next week. Also want Loki and Sophie to be together lmao. :eyes:
This episode somehow feels like it last a bit of the punch of previous episodes, I don’t know why.
But it also shows why I feel like this series rocks as hard as it does: because this is the MCU embracing weird fiction much more internally than before. Good stuff.
When the alternate surviving Lokis part ways with Sylvie and Loki, you can see the Dark Aster on the ground, left from the smoke monster.
Amazing end credit score and just wonderful acting.
GLORIOUS PURPOSE!!!
Great episode, love the way it’s progressing.
The plot is so thin and un-well justified here but as something new I haven't said, the score.. The show feels very reliant on the score to make the emotions work
A lot of this episode was just Lokis grunting and staring intently at their hands, but still, all of that was rather enchanting.
With this one the shows plays with the usual multiverse tropes, and it's fun. But like with Sylvie, it seems to not fit in the story at all.
Kid Loki and old Loki are ok, there seems to be the same version that diverged before or after. But if there is only one Sacred Timeline, and divergence from it are pruned, how the hell can there be a Woman, Black or Alligator Loki ?
It certainly is fun, specially the Alligator, but how does that fit into a story where the TVA exists ?
Making abstraction of that, that was a pretty cool episode. Even if they don't fit in the story, the multiverse tropes are always interesting to explore as they offer literally limitless possibilities.
Kid Loki is meh, except for the moment he announces his nexus event (killing Thor), that certainly has an effect on our Loki.
Alligator Loki is here for the fun and it works. The fact that they (or at least Old Loki) can understand him. The way he stays with them, even fight with them, and is apparently able to communicate enough to have been able to tell his nexus event (unless that was a joke, which would be disappointing).
Old Loki is just great. What would have happen if Loki survived Thanos. Such a sad and moving story. Surviving for so long and getting caught because of loneliness. Amazing power and ending too.
I'm a bit less impressed by Black Loki and the others. On a first approach, yes it would seem obvious that Lokis would try to manipulate and cheat and betray their other versions. On the other hand, they're not supposed to be stupid. "They survive", that's what they do. Actually it seems that nothing but Lokis survive there. And stupidly fighting each other to be the boss of nothing is not how you survive. I suppose this was some comic relief, but I was really disappointed at this part. It felt just so out of character(s).
Again, nice little moment between Loki and Sylvie. They're cute.
Not quite sure what to make of Renslayer. She may be shaked a bit about her beliefs but she still pruned Mobius, probably her only friend, so if she didn't blink an eye at that, not sure what would really change her actions. I suppose we'll see in the next episode when they meet again.
Seems you can carry a TemPad with you while getting pruned ? Hmm, sure. Why not. I guess if you keep your clothes..
CGI are a still a bit cheaper than what we're used to, but I this one was heavy on it and it was generally ok. Alioth could have been a bit more interesting.
Terrible episode. Richard E Grant was of course great but it made it all the more obvious how terrible the child Loki actor was. Honestly. The writing and casting left a lot to be desired.
Liked the guest appearance of the smoke monster from Lost though ;)
I missed the atreus in this episode
This one had a little bit of everything; whimsy, serious concepts, and surprises galore.
It was a bit up and down for me, but the ending was exciting and I enjoyed it, so overall, it’s a winner.
Loved all the many versions of Loki. Fun world and fun episode. And it uses Richard E. Grant very well!
Great episode, except for the part where Ravonna asks for Sylvie's trust and gets it!? How does Sylvie trusting her make any sense?
Did we just saw the same building from Ant-Man and the wasp in the quantum realm at the end if this episode?

Can't believe a character that I knew only for minutes made me tear up!
