This is a crazy, manic cartoon where Daffy Duck dreams he's famous detective, Dick Tracy. There are many things that really standout here. One is the insane drawings of Daffy as directed by Bob Clampett. Daffy is stretched, snapped apart and squiggled. It's nuts. There must have been no boundaries put on the animators of this short. Also, the paintings of all of the criminals who are closing in on Daffy once he enters the Hideout are wonderful.
Some of the shots are amazing, like Pumpkinhead running toward the camera, slightly tilted, rattling off rounds of a machine gun or when Daffy is dogpiled by the villains and segments himself into wormy squiggles to escape. And what's with the planes taking off from the top of one of the villain's flattened head? It's insanity, really.
