Macross 1982

Scifi mecha space opera. Also known as Robotech: The Macross Saga in the West, this is the unedited (better) original. It still feels fresh and fun after all these years; a lot of work went into this. THE transforming mecha series.

I am glad I sat down to watch this in whole. I grew up with Robotech on Cartoon Network, whose first season is basically the first 26 episodes of this. Back then I liked it for the space battles and the cool planes. Coming back to the subtitled version a few decades later as an adult, it's still a pretty good space opera.

Things I wish I would've known before watching:

• Even for its age, characters go distractingly off-model often. It turns certain scenes which should be weighty and important into silliness, and later in the series, downright comical.
• Feels like it moves way too fast. Important things happen in single episodes with no lead-up, especially later on. a central character is killed off in an episode and mentioned in memory one later. Later, another central character falls in love with, and marries, all in the space of an episode or two

Well, it only took 40 years to finally get around to watching this. Worth the wait! :D
