Well the season got better over the episodes but it's still bad nonetheless
The show is uneven.
Should have been a limited series.
this final will stay with me for a while, that real conversion between Hazel and Byron was worth the wait.
Byron was consistent and in denial until the end, wow.
And so torn about that finale. I knew something was either gonna happen to force Hazel to have to put up with Byron more if they were going for a Season 2, but I just can't quite believe that Hazel actually went for it.....
Oh no, this was so sad :/ And at the very end when she hold his hand that was so heartbreaking, also I feel like this would be the last thing Herbert would ever want.
So this was a good show, there's no doubt about that, a great cast, accurate dystopian vibes, and overall a quality project, but the problem is if you take a couple of seconds to think about it, this is a drama, this is the story of a woman trapped in an abusive relationship, and even when she gets to physically leave she's still his prisoner; my first seconds watching this I thought she was like a sex robot (or a synthetic partner) that was becoming aware and wanted to leave her "creator", that's what I thought the show was about (not that hypothetically abusing a synthetic partner would be okay, but things were so bad for Hazel that I couldn't believe he was doing that to a person) but then we see that this was sadly the case, and we see people are so apathetic to her situation, no one considers her a victim (even tho she is) and no one cares about helping her (I think Bangles is the first person to care) so these are 8 episodes of a victim begging for others' mercy, so this is heartbreaking (maybe it doesn't look as dramatic as I'm describing it, but if you think about it for a couple of seconds it literally is), also when I started watching this I immediately thought of Invisible Man, which technically is the same premise, and I watched that mainly to see the woman get revenge against her abuser, and that doesn't happen here (even tho not all revenges are about killing someone, sometimes the best revenge is to move forward) but still, we don't get to see Hazel moving forward. So this is a deep exploration of abusive relationships, how sometimes is not as easy to leave, or even if you leave you are still trapped, so it's a good execution to a very complex subject, but maybe as a limited show it would work better? cause this is not the end, but I leave with such a bitter taste and we won't get a resolution any time soon (first of all lets hope this doesn't get canceled), so I can't say that much cause the story is not over yet.
Edit: after writing this I noticed there was a beer ad on the website, lol, that was Hazel saying hi.

An exclamation point of a final episode to a show that was adept at accentuating the humor in dystopia. All of the recurring characters from Cristin Milioti to Billy Magnussen to Ray Romano bring great performances in the comedic lanes the show prescribes to them. I do think the show suffers from a lack of substance behind the humor - how much do we actually know about this characters? - but this show intrigued me enough to keep my interest for a second season.
