Marianne: Season 1

1x08 Tuesday

In another comment I wrote how Luc Besson had too much resources and didn't know what to do with it as a French, while there's such a rich Gallic culture to draw from.
Well - this is how it's done. I'm not sure to what extent it can be enjoyed if you're not French, but as a quasi binational steeped in French culture and Stephen King, I loved it.
It tugs all the right strings, and never lets go or apologizes about its identity. It's well written, funny, scary, superbly shot and acted.
The story is not original, but is a love letter to classical horror.
The ending sucks, but it comes with the territory (horror stories never have a really good ending).
I could nitpick and say that the backstory needed more time and data, there's so much untapped history to draw upon in French sorcery lore...

But this is a great season. They did a superb job. And I loved it.

Still stupid.

Soon after, Emma aborted the demon baby.

The end.

Not sure why it took me so long to watch the finale... Maybe I was too scared to watch it? Teehee!
I really liked that most of this episode was carried by only three characters (not including the big badass bitch), it added to the feeling of isolation and desperation and cranked the tension up. Then again, considering how most of them died throughout the season, there wasn't really that many to chose from...
The ending was somewhat of a cliché (I mean, after the twist of us finding out that Séby never got it on with Emma) but, overall, this was a tense ending to a tense series (I'm assuming it's a one season series). Good stuff!
