A bit of a filler episode as there is never a real threat to Arthur or Camelot, only Merlin's moral dilemma whether to protect his fellow magician and risk king's life, or to expose him and betray the person who befriended him. It is good that Merlin manages to resolve the problem in a peaceful way so that neither Uther not Gilli are hurt, and the boys part on friendly terms. The young sorcerer Gilli, internally conflicted about the use of magic, is definitely a likeable character and I would definitely like to see him in future episodes, maybe as Merlin's sidekick and friend. It was really a rare and precious experience for Merlin to meet a sorcerer his own age, someone with whom he could have mutual understanding. It would be great to see magic no longer outlawed in Camelot and socially accepted, and Merlin finally recognised both for his talents and unflinching loyalty.
